Based in his workshop in Ilkesten, Derbyshire,Founder of "4D Designs" Michael Radford is on a mission to create innovative designs and products by using only the minimum in materials and processes. He has adapted laser cutting techniques working with large sheets of sustainably sourced birch ply. Thanks to a unique locking system, he can assemble the plywood into tall structures without the need for any additional materials glues or adhesives.

The resulting Koivu lighting range available in various sizes, resembles a forest, recreating the patterns of barks and natural textures transferred onto ply wood.

Recently, Michael was shortlisted for the Homes and Gardens classic design awards and has been successful in obtaining several high profile overseas commissions.

 

Michael established a shared design studio in Ilkeston, Derbyshire 'Shed 2 Studios' Over the last few years the studio has grown in strength and is looking to become one of the leading centres for creating sustainable contemporary Art and Design in the Midlands.The studio boasts collections from a Furniture maker, Lighting designer, Jeweller, Sculptor and Fine Artist.
